The most beautiful cycling routes in the head of North Holland

For cycling enthusiasts, there is plenty to do

Il y a aussi beaucoup à faire autour de notre parc pour les amateurs de vélo. Une nature magnifique et des vues fascinantes sont un ingrédient parfait pour une merveilleuse balade à vélo. Il existe un certain nombre de superbes pistes cyclables en Hollande du Nord et nous aimerions en souligner quelques-unes pour vous.

🌻 1. Cycling route "Along the bulb fields and villages" (± 25 km)

A quiet, varied route that starts at Recreation Park De Wielen and takes you past the villages of Sint Maarten, Schagerbrug and Burgerbrug.
In springtime, you cycle here through a colorful landscape of tulips, daffodils and hyacinths. Along the way you will pass cozy terraces and small farms.

☕ Tip: Stop at Brasserie de Keuken in Schagerbrug for coffee and cake.

🏖️ 2. Cycling route "From Sint Maarten to the beach of Petten" (± 30 km)

This route leads you from Sint Maarten via the Pettemerbos and the Uitlandse Polder to the coast. You will cycle through open dune landscape and along new nature areas that were created after the coastal reinforcement.
The route combines nature, beach and tranquility - ideal for a relaxing day trip.

🌅 High point: Viewpoint Hondsbossche Dunes with panoramic view of the sea.

🌳 3. Cycle route "Through the Schoorl Dunes" (± 35 km)

A beautiful and varied route through the National Park Schoorl Dunes. You cycle through forests, dune valleys and along high dune tops overlooking the sea.
Along the way you can stop at the Buitencentrum Schoorlse Duinen or at the cozy village of Schoorl with its famous Klimduin.

🍽️ Tip: Have lunch in Schoorl or Groet at one of the many terraces.

🚲 4. Bike route "Historic Schagen & rural polders" (± 20 km)

Discover the cozy town of Schagen and its rural surroundings. The route takes you past the historic center, Schagen Castle and then along quiet roads through the green polder landscapes towards Tuitjenhorn and Warmenhuizen.

🏰 Points of interest: Schagen Castle and the weekly market in summer.

🌾 5. Cycling route "Rondje Groote Keeten & Callantsoog" (± 35 km)

A wonderful coastal route with plenty of fresh sea air. From Sint Maarten you cycle via Callantsoog to Groote Keeten and back through the dunes and bulb fields.
This route offers a nice mix of nature, beach and cozy villages. In Callantsoog you can take a break at the beach or grab a terrace.

Local route tip: The Stalletjesroute

The Stalletjesroute in North Holland takes you past beautiful places like Sint Maarten, Dirkshorn and Tuitjenhorn. The bike route is about 26 kilometers long and brings with it a lot of culture. With a normal bicycle you will cover the route in about an hour and a half, while with the electric bicycle it will take you about 1 hour and 12 minutes.

🌷 Tip: buy some local produce at one of the many local stalls

It is a very rural route that introduces you to the local specialties of the different places. In and around Saint Martin, for example, you will find great sales stalls from flower growers, fruit growers and farmers, among others. This way you can enjoy the fantastic products they have to offer. By having a chat with the entrepreneur, you can learn a lot about the products you are buying. For example, where do they come from and what does the entrepreneur have to do to get the products into their sales barn. It can be incredibly interesting to learn about local specialties. On that, you can simultaneously gain knowledge while enjoying this beautiful bike tour.

The places you pass during the bike tour also bring with them picturesque landscapes. You will pass by vast polders with fascinating dikes. You can also enjoy a view of the dunes found along the North Sea coast. After your bicycle tour, you will not only have enjoyed beautiful views and amazing nature, but you may also come home with delicious products straight from the land. So all in all, this is a great cycling route that you can definitely try during your stay.

🚴‍♂️ Practical cycling tips

  • Bike rental: You can rent (electric) bikes at the reception of Recreatiepark De Wielen.
  • Bike junction network: All routes are easy to follow via the cycling junction network. At the reception there are cycling maps with junction routes.
  • Breaks: Everywhere along the way you will find cozy cafes and beach pavilions.
  • In spring the bulb fields around Sint Maarten are at their most beautiful!
