A sense of calm you don't have to search for, it’s simply there.
Cycling, walking, and enjoying each other's company in peace and quiet
Midweek stays during the shoulder seasons; the beach quiet and the cycle paths peaceful
A midweek break outside the school holidays. The cycling and walking paths are wonderfully quiet. A delightful bike ride along the West Frisian Sea Dike, returning via the Schoorl Dunes nature reserve, followed by a glass of wine on the bistro terrace. Some of our guests have been coming here for years; they know the park, they know us, and they know each other. That is no coincidence. Recreation Park De Wielen was created for people who don’t want to hear "peace and quiet" touted as a marketing promise, but simply want to feel it the moment they drive through the gate.
A five-kilometre bike ride through dunes and polders.
Whether you're after a coffee, a snack, or a pizza, you can always visit 't Parkhuys.
Ask for route maps at reception.
Dunes, forests, polders, and blooming bulb fields.
Accommodation for couples
For couples, we recommend our chalets and bungalows that sleep up to four people.
For the whole family there is plenty to do
Don't get bored for a moment

DAY 1
Arrival and first attempt pool
Check-in from 15:00, key, welcome basket, map of the park.
Children will find the pool within ten minutes. Groceries can be delivered in advance by Albert Heijn Schagen, will be ready in the chalet upon arrival. In the evening at Eetcafe 't Parkhuys: children's menu for the little ones, a little wine for yourself.

DAY 2
Tulip Fields, Anna Paulowna, and Breezand
An early start by bike toward Anna Paulowna (10 km). The fields are in full bloom in May; the hyacinths are past their peak, but the tulips are still in bloom. Our tip: ride the loop clockwise so you’ll have the wind at your back on the way back. Lunch at Café De Wielenburg in Sint Maarten.

DAY 3
West Frisian Omringdijk, a section
One of the most beautiful cycling routes in North Holland, 126 km in total, but you don’t have to do the whole thing. Take the Schagen → Hoorn section (40 km one way) and take the train back. Or a shorter 25-km loop for those who prefer a more leisurely ride. Stop for lunch in Wervershoof along the way.

DAY 4
Alkmaar Cheese Market
A 30-minute drive. Friday morning is the official cheese market, but Alkmaar is already lively on Thursday—less crowded, but just as beautiful. A combination of Waagplein, the Stedelijk Museum, and lunch on a terrace along the canal. Back at the park around 4:00 p.m. for a nap.

DAY 5
Petten Beach, Walking, and Silence
It’s a twelve-minute drive to Petten aan Zee. The beach is wide and almost empty in the spring. You can easily take a long walk along the beach—an hour and a half in one direction is definitely doable. Afterward, enjoy a coffee at Brasserie Igluu Petten, which features a modern chef and fine wines. In the evening, head back to the campground for a quiet night.

DAY 6
Texel, or just doing absolutely nothing
For those who still have energy left: a day on Texel. Drive to Den Helder (25 minutes), take the ferry (20 minutes), visit the Ecomare seal sanctuary, and have lunch in De Koog. It’s a long day. For those who prefer some peace and quiet: a book on the terrace, the second half of the West Frisian Omringdijk bike route, or the pool all to yourself.

DAY 1
Departure, coffee, key, goodbye
No rush—check-out is until 10:30. Our regular midweek guests often enjoy one last cup of coffee on the Parkhuys terrace before they leave. We look forward to seeing you again; if you’re considering a return visit, ask at the front desk about our off-season offer.
