Routes ready to go

Seven mapped routes from the park, 26 to 59 km. Prefer to plan your own? That takes a few minutes.

Three routes to start with

From a short loop to a full day out

Every route starts at the park. The land is flat, so the only climb is the dyke itself.

De Stalletjesroute

Past the little farm stalls in the polder, where eggs, honey and flowers are sold on an honesty basis. A half-day route.

about 26 km

Around Schagen

Through the polders to Schagen, with its castle tower and the cafés around the market square. On Thursdays in July and August there is a cheese market.

about 41 km

Callantsoog loop

The long one, through the dunes and past the bulb fields to Callantsoog. Ride back along the dyke with the wind behind you.

What you ride past

No mountains and no endless forests, but dykes, water, bulb fields and the sea behind the dunes. Everything below is within a day's ride of the park.

Why here

Cycling country, without the hunting around

  • The Westfrisian Ring Dyke A 126 km dyke, more than 800 years old, with polders on either side. You are on it minutes after leaving the park.
  • Bulb fields in April and May The polder near Anna Paulowna turns from hyacinth to daffodil to tulip. The peak falls between 15 April and 5 May.
  • The beach 6 km away Sint Maartenszee in a quarter of an hour. Coffee at the beach pavilion, then back through the dunes.
  • An hour from Amsterdam Amsterdam is an hour away by car and Schagen station is 10 km from the park, with a direct train to the city.
  • E-bikes and e-cargo bikes No bike with you? We hire out quality e-bikes and e-cargo bikes. Rates and booking.
  • Back at 't Parkhuys Coffee, ice cream and cold drinks are self-service, every day from 10 am to 10 pm. On Fridays and Saturdays there is pizza and chips.

When to come

The shoulder seasons are the best here

Outside the school holidays you often have the dyke to yourself. Those are also the weeks the discount applies to.

April and May

The bulb fields are in flower. Ride the loop clockwise and you will have the wind behind you on the way back.

June and September

Long light evenings and a sea warm enough to swim in. Warm enough without a jacket, cool enough to keep pedalling.

October

An empty beach, hard clear air and a dyke with nobody on it. Plan the outward leg with the wind behind you.
